The American Girl Dolls were first produced back in the year 1986, and still to this day they are being made. When they first began making these dolls, Pleasant Company (the manufacturer) offered accessories and clothes to go along with the dolls. Back then, they all included a travel basket, puzzles, books, trading cards, and much more. Hallmark became connected to the line and began producing keepsake figurines in 2001. Each of the seven girls had a keepsake figurine made. Each year the line has grown to include Christmas ornaments, charms, and the like.
The main doll body parts consist of vinyl, and the body is made of soft fabric. The eyes are made of plastic, and every skin tone is completely different based upon the racial background of the doll. These dolls were very well known to all little girls back in the 1990′s, and they are still widely known today.
Knowing the price of these dolls, most families of girls often save up enough money to purchase the girl her first doll. They often leave enough money left over to not only purchase the doll, but also doll clothes and accessories.
Each one of these dolls had a trading card that comes with the doll. On the card it denotes all important information about the doll. Also, each doll that has been made over the years represents a special era in history. For example, Kirsten was made to represent an 1854 Minnesota pioneer. There are more than fourteen famous historical people that have their own doll, books, and accessories made to this day.
